Appraisal for Proposed Campus Site Completed

Payson, Arizona, August 19, 2014-  — The appraisal for the 250-acre US Forest Service (USFS) site south of AZ Highway 260 was completed as scheduled on August 18th, 2014. The appraisal now will be submitted to the USFS Tonto National Forest for review.  The USFS site remains the preferred location for the university campus in Payson.

Last summer, the USFS agreed to a direct sale process for the property.  The appraisal is one of the final steps in the direct sales process. Once finalized, and the appraised price is accepted by the Rim Country Educational Alliance board, the USFS can move forward with preparation of a deed of sale.

Equally important, once the price is determined, the Rim Country Educational Alliance board can engage in more substantive discussions to determine financial models that will be acceptable to the Alliance, Arizona State University (the preferred educational partner), and the financial backers of the project.

“We are extremely pleased that the appraisal was completed on schedule. Now we just need the Tonto Forest to review it,” commented Steve Drury, president of the Rim Country Educational Alliance (RCEA). “We’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes, so that we’ll be ready to move forward, once the USFS process is finished.”

The USFS timeline allows for 30 days to review the appraisal.
